The Journey *cue Indiana Jones music*

World map with route markers

Our intrepid journey should really be named The Round-The-World-Spectacular.  It started out a couple of years ago with Beeandpenguin and alice both realising they wanted to visit England.  From there it morphed into a more general plan of staying for four months each in Ireland, Scotland, England, and Wales.  Then Beeandpenguin’s boyfriend, amanwithahat, jumped on board and now it’s a helluva lot more complicated than it used to be – but it’s going to be a helluva lot more fun and rewarding, too.

Their journey begins thusly:

Brisbane: Home to culture, home to sports, home to three million mosquitoes that all descend after dark.

Tokyo: A blend of the old and the new: technology and cherry blossoms.  And, what alice is looking forward to the most… the crazy vending machines.

^Game Vending Machine in Tokyo, which is only slightly cooler than this one:

A book vending machine in the UK (but we’re going there too, so it’s all good)

Kyoto: Geisha, beautiful architecture, and painfully long tea ceremonies.

San Francisco: The city where everyone is welcome, and alice indulges in some month-long geekery.

Pennsylvania: Three words – The Office Convention.

New York: Because if we’re in the neighborhood, why not?

Some part of Eastern Canada that may or may not be Quebec and/or Montreal: We’re a little shaky on the details, and will get back to you on that one.  All alice knows is a hundred and fifty dollar tickets to Cirque du Soleil, baby!

Ireland: Home of the little green men.  Beeandpenguin’s hunting grounds.

Scotland: Home of the little kilt-wearing men.  alice’s hunting grounds.

England: Home of the little men between the little green men and the little kilt-wearing men.  amanwithahat’s hunting ground (but for a different reason altogether – he comes from England).

Wales: Home of the little freezing men with unpronouncable names.  And Doctor Who.  alice, commence your stalking!

And, of course, during this time it’s probable there’ll be Paris and Versailles and Rome and Nice and Sweden and Denmark and Greece and the Mediterranean… but who’s counting?

Expect more updates on each of the places we’ll be going and why they’re so important to us when we figure that out ourselves.
